Education, Awareness, and Prevention Program

SBAK is involved with health fairs, school fairs, bridal shows and various events to educate the public about the importance of folic acid. If a woman is taking a folic acid supplement containing 400 mcg of folic acid daily prior to conception, it can reduce the risk of having a baby affected by Spina Bifida.

SBAK also appeals to youth. If young people start the habit of taking a multivitamin every day, we are instilling a behavior that will carry into adulthood. We are also promoting nutrition and the importance of thinking about what we put into our bodies.

Many people simply forget to take their multivitamin or folic acid supplement daily. Our motto is “Brush your teeth, wash your face, take your vitamin…..Everyday.” When you pair it with an activity you already do, it’s easier to remember.

This program is very important in helping to prevent birth defects. It also raises awareness in our community about Spina Bifida and SBAK.
