Programs and Services

Newborn Outreach

Welcome to the SBAK family! Our goal is to connect with every family in Kentucky and Southern Indiana who delivers a baby with Spina Bifida to provide them with information and assistance. If the hospital where you deliver does not ask to refer you to SBAK, please Contact Us.

If needed we can provide a specially designed car bed to transport your baby home from the NICU.

Play Pals

Play Pals playgroups are for children with Spina Bifida from newborn to age six and their families, including siblings.

These group activities allow families to meet with others who are experiencing the same issues, challenges and successes. They are a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for the children to play while the adults chat.

If you would like to help us start a Play Pals group in your area of the state, please Contact Us.

Growing Up With Spina Bifida

This program aims to address the greatest needs and issues of school age children with Spina Bifida. Parents will learn how to answer the tough questions their kids may have and kids will learn how to advocate for themselves, take care of their bodies, and interact with their peers.

Adults & Teens

SBAK strives to provide programs and social events to meet the needs of adults living with Spina Bifida in our service area.  These may include:

  • Transitioning classes
  • Wine & Paint nights
  • Group activities (holiday events, ax throwing, bowling, etc)

Spina Bifida Family Camp

One of our most popular programs, this event is held annually at the Center for Courageous Kids and allows families with children 17 and under to attend an accessible, medically staffed sleepaway camp weekend.
